Introduction

Northpolls works with three views.

The first one is the screen view. This one is shown on stage, usually via a beamer or a large TV screen. The second view is the one on the mobile phones of the audience. This is what we call the audience view. And the last one is the mobile phone, or tablet that is used by the moderator, the moderator view.

Screen view

The screen view is the screen that is shown on stage. On the day of your event go to to www.npgo.nl/admin and use your code to login, or go to your dashboard in the NorthPolls website and use the direct link.

The screen view of Northpolls is optimised for a screen resolution of 1920x1080 and is shown best from a modern pc or laptop with the latest version of a modern browser. Click ‘full screen’ to show the screen view in full screen.

Important: The screen view has three modes: the poll mode when the selected poll is shown, the pause mode that can be turned on if you wish and the question mode that will show the selected questions from the audience. These three modes can be selected by the moderator from the moderator view.

Audience View

All attendees to your event can enter the audience view by visiting npgo.nl.

As soon as they have typed in the login code, their name and chose an avatar they enter Northpolls by clicking on the start button. On top of their screen they see a maximum of three buttons, based on the options you have activated as event organizer and the version of NorthPolls you use.

The left button shows the active poll and attendees can easily participate. They can always change the answer if they want.

Via the button in the middle the audience can ask questions. They can do that anonymous, if they want to. The moderator can select the questions he or she wants to work with on stage an show them on the screen view.

The right button shows the event schedule. Audience view is optimised for smartphone viewing but can also be viewed on a tablet or laptop.

Important: the questions option can be turned on or off in the event settings. If turned off, there won't be a question button in the audience view. The event schedule option is only available in the Premium version of NorthPolls. If both the 'questions' and the 'event schedule' option are disabled, there is no button at the top of the audience view, since only polls are shown.

Moderator View

This is the view of the moderator. The moderator controls Northpolls.

From this view he or she can show polls on the screen view, put them live for the audience in the audience view and select and view questions on the screen view.

Northpolls is perfectly designed to be operated by the chairman on stage from a smartphone or tablet. But it can also be easily operated from a tablet or laptop by someone else who is in contact with the chairman on stage.

At the top of the moderator view you see three buttons. With these buttons, the moderator controls the screen view.
The left button shows the selected poll on the screen. The button in the middle puts the screen in pause in case you do not want to show polls or questions. And with the right button you can display the selected questions of the audience on the screen.

If you want to show a poll on the screen, select that poll. With one extra click you select 'go live’. From that moment on the poll will also be visible in the audience view and attendees can vote. If you want the voting to stop, switch off the 'go live' button again with one click.

You can always put the screen view in pause mode. For example during an evaluation where you ask the audience to give feedback, or during a poll when you do not want attendees to influence one each other.

You can switch between polls and questions as a moderator with the two buttons at the bottom of your screen. These buttons do not have effect on the status of the screen view. If you select questions, only you will see the questions from the audience in the moderator view.

Select the questions you want to show on the screen view. At the moment you select the questions icon at the top of your screen, the questions appear on the screen view on the stage.

The poll type short text has an extra function in the moderator view. With the shuffle button you can show a random selection of all the short text polls that have been submitted by your audience on the screen views. Clicking the shuffle button again shows a new random selection.

The poll type quiz questions also has some extra functions in the moderator view.

With the arrows you can go to the next or previous question. If you want to show which answer was correct on the screen view, click on the button between the arrows. And if you want to show the top 5 from the audience, select the button Top 5. You can do this during the quiz to show the standings.

Important: the top 5 is based not only on the amount of correct answers given by a participant, but also on the time in which the answers were given. That is why there is always one winner.

Important: the premium audience code is only active on the day of the event. Of you want to test your event in advance please use the automatic generated code. Both codes can be found on top of the dashboard of your event. Testing before the day of the event can be done with a maximum of 5 attendees.

Design your background

You can choose from different backgrounds to give the screen view on stage your own look.

Design event settings / Highlight and text color

You can choose your own colors to match your logo. Check the preview carefully to make sure the text can be read properly.

Extra content event settings / Text pause screen

If the screen view is in pause mode, this text will be displayed on the screen view. Choose for example the name of your event, the address of the website or the hashtag of your event.

Extra content event settings / Event program

This option allows you to create a simple text page that includes your event schedule. This schedule is available on the audience view for all attendees.
The menu at the top allows you to easily make text bold, create a list, or create a hyperlink. Clicking on the eye icon will show the page as it appears in the audience view.

Important: If you do not want to offer this option to your audience, please leave this text field blank.

Extra content event settings / Audience questions

Select this option if you want the audience to be able to ask questions via Northpolls. The moderator can select the questions he or she wants to work with and show them on the screen view.
